Vitamin C Serums In India

Updated: a day ago

Have you heard about Vitamin C in skincare? If not are you living in a bubble because it's basically everywhere but a lot of us have no clue how to include it in our skincare routine. I hear a lot of myths and misconceptions about vitamin C too so today's post is all about Vitamin C what it does? and going to solve some of the doubts that were asked on my Instagram Q&A

Read till the end since I'm also gonna do a recommendation list that I got from other bloggers and skincare enthusiasts on Instagram. I'll be only specifying serums that are available in India so it's easy for you to get your hands on the. I'll be reviewing the ones I have used personally.

๐Ÿ‹What is Vitamin C and what does it do for your skin?

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals, Because of its antioxidant properties, vitamin C aids in your skin's natural regeneration process, which helps your body repair damaged skin cells

Benefits of Vitamin C are:

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, meaning it protects skin cells from damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure. It also inhibits melanin production in the skin, which helps to lighten hyperpigmentation and spots, even out skin tone, and enhance skin radiance.

๐Ÿ‹Does Vitamin C work for oily skin?

Vitamin C works magically for oily because skin it has an antioxidant property which helps to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and all aging effect. It also gives even tone and adds the natural brightening effect. In addition to this vitamin c protect your skin from damage especially from sun rays.

๐Ÿ‹When to apply Vitamin C serum morning routine or evening routine?

Vitamin C serum is typically applied once or twice per day. A good rule of thumb is to cleanse, tone, apply vitamin C serum, and then moisturize. It is suggested that vitamin C serum should be applied in the day time routine since with sunscreen it really helps in keeping the UV rays out but if you don't use the right kind of SPF with it can cause major damage to your skin so be careful. See that your sunscreen is 30 and above SPF and you apply it regularly. It totally depends on your preference when you want to use vitamin C in your routine.

๐Ÿ‹How many times in a week can you use Vitamin C?

You can use it every day it totally depends on the sensitivity of your skin. As for me I really adding vitamin C 3 times a week in my skincare routine either morning or night time. If you have very sensitive skin then use it 2 to 3 times at first then increase the number of times as and when your skin gets used to it.

๐Ÿ‹When does vitamin C oxidize?

Usually, when vitamin C is unstable it oxidizes. If the product has darkened or otherwise changed color, vitamin C has likely oxidized. Although the product is still safe to use, it no longer carries the same benefits.

๐Ÿ‹Which Ordinary Vitamin C product will work for you?

They have so many that I cannot in my right mind to sit and discuss that. You will have to check their website and write down your concern and they will help you out in choosing which one is meant for you. That's the best way of deciding which one will work for you. Also since Ordinary isn't easily available in India I am not specifying it here. If you live in India and want to buy Ordinary products either order it from the Cult Beauty website or else check out Crimson.luxe(from whom I buy personally)

๐Ÿ‹What is MAP and SAP in Vitamin C serums?

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) is a derivative of Ascorbic acid, also known as a vitamin C. Upon topical application, MAP is converted into Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) as it crosses the epidermis.

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate(MAP), together with Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) has been shown to overcome many of the problems associated with Ascorbic acid in the delivery of these benefits to the skin.

๐Ÿ‹Which is better vitamin C or hyaluronic acid serum?

When it comes to hyaluronic acid vs. vitamin C, they have many of the same benefits. While hyaluronic acid protects from UVB rays, vitamin C minimizes damage from UV lights caused by free radicals.

Reviews & Recommendations:

Dot & Key Vitamin C Serum Concentrate

My Experience: It's a lightweight water-based serum that gets absorbed very quickly. Works great for oily to combination skin types. Dry skin can use it in summers in the day time. Its beginner-friendly since it's not very potent and doesn't irritate your skin. But it does have a strong scent which can be a bother. It doesn't fade ance scars quickly it takes a while but it does brighten your skin and helps with uneven skin tone.

St.Botanica Vitamin C 20% + Vitamin E & Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum

My Experience: This one is oil-based more suited for dry skin but this also works if you suffer from acne as it keeps the acne away and helps with fading the stubborn acne marks. This is expensive but it works the fastest compared to other serums but this also oxidizes so you need to finish it up quickly.

Ilana Organics Brightening Skin Serum Papaya + Lemon

My Experience: This is my fav among all the serums I ever tired. This is more suited toward combination to dry skin since its oil-based but it does absorb on the skin if massaged well. This doesn't say it's a vitamin C serum specifically but the main ingredient in this is Vitamin C and does everything Vitamin C does for your skin. This is expensive but for me, this is totally worth it. This doesn't oxidize.

Juicy Chemistry Kakadu Plum & Pomegranate Facial Oil

My Experience: I had really liked this when I first used this in the winters but now not so much. Like somehow this isn't working well for me in the summers since it gave me tiny bumps on my forehead. It hasn't oxidized or anything the color is naturally yellow of this one. I have suggested this serum to a lot of my followers and half of them have also complained about the same thing that it worked well at first then gave them tiny bumps on chin or forehead. So I am gonna use this more give a fair shot and then do a complete review on it later. Overall it is expensive too.

Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop

My Recommendation: I used a while back and I can't find my bottle that's why I haven't reviewed it yet. It is oil-based but absorbs super quickly on the skin. It meant more for dry skin since it gives a dewy look. If you have dull and dry skin you would like this more. It also is beginner-friendly since it doesn't irritate the skin but it is unstable so it does oxidize really quickly so finish it up quickly after you open it.
