Drugstore Red lipsticks
1. L'Oreal Paris Star Collection- Pure Scarleto
When you talk about red lipsticks L'Oreal obviously is the first name that comes in your mind, so when their red collection was out I was ready to invest in at-least one, even though this collection cost around 1000/- bucks when it launched. This shade in their reds collection represents the famous Hollywood actress Blake Lively. I love her style and that's why this color was my first choice and also because it has the right amount of pink in it if you are wearing a red lipstick for the first time. Its a deep red with a slight pink undertone which will suit fair to medium skin-tone.
Packaging: A classic L'Oreal bullet packaging with glossy black finish and co-responding color block at the center of the cap opening. The signature of the corresponding artist is on the cap in gold.
Formula: Pigmented and opaque in one swipe with matte finish. It gets more matte when you wear it for a while. It transfers as you eat and drink, but the amount of transfer reduces through out the day. It fades evenly without giving your lips a weird feeling. They are comfortable and lasts upto 5 hours. Reapplication is easy. Overall a good formula for regular use.
Availability: L'Oreal has physical stores everywhere and is available online on sites like Amazon, Myntra and Nykaa. Online stores usually have a good discount going on L'Oreal products during sale time.
2. Nykaa Pout Perfect- Call me Red, Darling
Its a nice pigmented warm toned red in creamy texture which is good for people who have dry lips and don't like too matte lipsticks. It has a tint on orange which makes it nice bright red which will make you look fresh on any given day. You can outline and fill with one lipstick which makes it handy for travel if you don't mind the occasional sharpening.
Packaging: It has the most light weight packaging I ever have seen or felt of a lipstick. It comes in black wooden pencil format which makes it perfect for travelling. The cap is color coordinated with the bottom. The color represents the color of the lipstick.
It doesn't come with a sharpener which is a major con since you need to sharpen it after every second use for the pointed tip.
Formula: The formula is extra creamy and light weight on the lips. It gives the lips the natural pout finish like the name says as they are moisturizing. Its opaque in two swipes. If you want to make it a little matte just dab some loose powder on it or blot your lips with a tissue paper. It does transfer when you eat or drink anything. It lasts upto 4 hours then it fades evenly, but reapplication is easy.
Availability: Its available in Nykaa physical store and beauty bar in selected lifestyle stores. Online on Nykaa site.
3. Nicka K True matte- Milano Red
The red is true bright red which will make your face pop. Its one of the more affordable option in the market for a pigmented long lasting liquid lipstick. Overall a good lipstick at this cost.
Packaging: The packaging is pretty cheap but is quite sturdy with an semi-glossy black cap and clear bottle through which you can see the color. It has simple doe foot applicator like regular liquid lipsticks. The applicator is easy enough that you won't make a mess while applying.
Formula: The lipstick formula is quite pigmented and applies evenly in one coat. It feels a little sticky at first so don't rub your lips together till it completely dries. It dries quickly so work fast during application. If the stickiness is still there after 10 mins just blot your lips with tissue. It smells like sugary candy. The lipstick is comfortable and transfer proof. It lasts upto 7 hrs. It will fade from the middle if you eat something oily and reapplication is not ideal as it can get patchy. Use a light layer of lip balm on top of the lipstick if it feels flaky or dry. You will have to use a oil-based remover to remove the lipstick at the end of the day.
Availability: Available only online at Nykaa and Hok makeup. These sites usually have amazing discounts during sale period. That's the ideal time to shop. I would recommend Nykaa over HOK makeup any day.
4. Colourpop Ultra Matte liquid lipstick- Creeper
Its a bright orange-red which will immediately brighten up your face. I have this shade for a while so my packaging is completely destroyed with the writing all faded. but the lipstick is still good to use.
Packaging: Classic long glass tube packaging with transparent body and silver cap. You can see the color through the glass body. The tube is sturdy. It comes with a basic doe-foot applicator, which isn't very flexible.
Formula: It has a thin consistency and feels light on the lips. Usually colourpop lipsticks are quite pigmented but Creeper goes on a little blotchy and can be super drying on the lips after a few hours of wear. It dries pretty quickly after application. It's transfer proof and lasts upto 8 hours even with eating and drinking. Lip balm is recommended before application. Will have to use an oil-based remover at the end of the day.
Availability: You can directly order from the colourpop site with which you will have to pay international shipping and customs. Its easier if you have someone who lives in U.S and can courier it to you. The other option which I use is to buy from Instagram accounts but be careful while doing so as not all are genuine.
*There are lot of other choices for red lipstick in the drugstore now-a-days thanks to the competition. Different formula and different textures at affordable rates. The above mentioned are the one i have tried and tested for a while. I will always use new stuff and keep you all updated.
**P.S All above opinions are my own and honest. Everything mentioned above are bought by me by my money. What works for me may sometimes not work for you so always try before you buy and check more reviews till your satisfied.
