Maybelline Mascaras Review and Comparison

I’m only specifying Mascara I have bought again and truly loved. The ones that are not mentioned are also tired and tested but I wasn’t a fan of them therefore did not compare them with the following. All the mascaras mentioned below are used and repurchased atleast 2 times by me. Also a few important tips are given at the end.

1. Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Mascara

My Experience: I’m gonna start with that this is my favorite mascara of all time. Whatever I use or buy or try I always come back to this one and the reasons for that are explained so keep reading. You can see the wand has a curve, now that helps to push up your lashes therefore you don’t need to curl your lashes. Its more of a lengthening and separating lashes then volume lashes. So if you like full volume you are not gonna like this.
First coat gives you a very natural look, you have to go for another coat for that oomph look. Its true to it claims, it does fan out your lashes and gives them the spidery effect. I usually go one coat or two coat on a day to day basis but I go three coats for that extra boost.

There are two types of bristles which gives you different effects. So what I prefer is to use the small bristles with the slight curve to use first then turn over and use the big side which had more spread out bristles over especially on the outer lashes. This technique gives your lashes better dimension.

This works great even for lower lashes as it has different bristles and it also is great for people with small eyes as it has a curve its easier to do your inner corner lashes which are usually hard to coat. If you have a favorite volume mascara and it clumps up you can use this one on top, this mascara wand will separate your lashes with some extra length giving you the best of both worlds.

My Ratings: (5/5)

My Experience: This is more of a recent discovery by me, because I’m not a fan of colossal volume I ended up avoiding this but my mistake because it is a really wonderful mascara and now I’m a fan.
The wand looks big and clumpy but actually its more tapered which is a good shape to get to all your lashes and for all eye shapes and sizes. The bristles are more in zig zag pattern and some bristles are long and some are short. The short bristles are placed in the middle of the large ones this way the wand coats all your lashes which gives you volume and length. Which is genius. But you do have to build this one up, you definitely need three coats for the perfect oomph your lashes are majestic look. This mascara is not clumpy, infact separates your lashes perfectly without looking spidery which the sensational does.

This mascara is perfect for people who have shot and few lashes. The formula feels a little lighter compared to the other Maybelline mascaras that’s why it needs to be built up by a few extra coats. If you have very straight or downward sloping lashes, using a lash curler is recommended, otherwise its fine if you skip the torture curler.

My Ratings: (4/5)

My Experience: So I bought this when it hadn’t even launched in India and I wasn’t impressed at the first go maybe because I got a really dried up tube. So when everyone in India started talking about it, I decided to give it another try and I had a completely different experience this time around.

The formula is a little more liquidy compared to other Maybelline mascaras and lot of people prefer this mascara when it dries up a little. Well I don’t mind it either way but when it dries up it does clump up more so I always use a different wand or lash combo to brush my lashes.

This is who made for people who have few lashes and want volume and full volume because two coats of this mascara will give you the volume you need and more. But I wouldn’t recommend this who have sensitive eyes and are clumsy at applying mascara because the bristles on this wand are sharp and they do poke. The wand is of same size and the bristles are all of the same size situated at equal distance. Therefore you need to keep moving the wand while coating your lashes so you don’t skip any. The distance between the bristles is what gives you the volume as it deposits more mascara on the lashes. The head of this wand is a little more flexible so it bends more.

When I use this I always end up going over with the Maybelline Sensational as I feel this combo gives me best of both worlds. I don’t use this for day to day as much but more when I know I want to make a statement as I prefer mascara because I can’t apply fake lashes to save my life. The wand does push up your lashes giving it a curl but it doesn’t hold for long so using a curler will obviously be better.

My Ratings: (3/5) Because you need to curl your lashes and also it clumps up so you need a lash comb and I only use this on occasions so I’m giving this a 3 out of 5. I obviously love it that’s why I have a backup.

4. Maybelline New York Falsies Push Up Angel

My Experience: This is not available in India and I’m very pissed at that. Maybelline has a lot more types of mascaras which are not available in India and that is super annoying. So whenever I’m on trips I always pick up mascaras which are not available in India and I found this around 2 years ago and fell in love with this.

Well it does look like a weird one for a mascara and it is quite simple. It has bristles on only one side with a curve. The sizes of the bristles goes from big to small towards the tip, which gives you the butterfly lashes. This one isn’t for volume, its more for length and separating. It pushes and gives your lashes a curl (which stays for while). The head on this wand isn’t very flexible like other mascara which I actually prefer.

This wand is perfect for lower lash, gives your lower lashes long look. I usually use this with another mascara mostly which gives volume like the Maybelline Push Up Drama. I wish these guys combined these two mascara in one. I would be very happy.

If you love wearing lashes, this mascara is great as it blends your natural lashes with fake lashes while combing them, also gives a wing look to your lashes.

My Ratings: (3/4) The major reason that its not available in India and also its more of a conjunction use. I always use it with other mascaras and I love this for lower lash more but obviously because I love it I have a backup.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • All Maybelline mascaras have plastic wands and have flexible head.
  • Over all the formula of washable and waterproof of all the above are basically the same.
  • The only difference is that the waterproof once holds the curl for longer in the day and doesn’t smudge or feather throughout the day even when it comes in contact with water and you will need an oil based cleaner or wipe to remove it at the end of the day.
  • On a day to day basis washable ones are more convenient
  • Always wiggle your wand from inside to outwards while applying your lashes, this will deposit the mascara over the full lashes and not just sit and clump in the front.
  • If you feel like your lashes have clumped up, use a lash comb or a clean mascara wand and separate your lashes.
  • Maybelline does some of the best mascaras at affordable prices. (You can always get these mascaras on discounts)

For reference: I do have sensitive eyes and I have done Lasik on both eyes around 5 years ago. My eyes are watery that’s why I do prefer water-proof mascaras especially for lower lashes so I’m not left with panda eyes at the end of the day.
