Drugstore Concealer Battle

I have a constant battle with sleep thus leaving me with baggy and dark under-eyes. Usually I don’t care about my under eyes but there are moments where I like to look put together and in these moments concealers save my day. I use concealer a lot more over foundations and I have tried quite a few to see which one I like the most and there are mostly from the drugstore so I have combined them all for an epic concealer battle. Hope this helps you in deciding which concealer will work for you.

Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Concealer

Price: Rs 620/- Comes in 8 Shades

My Experience: This is hands down the best concealer you will find in the drugstore. It works for all skin types. It creases very less compared to other concealers, infact you can skip powder if you have dry under eyes. If you have oily under eyes you should set it with a setting powder that way it will last longer.

The consistency of this concealer is not thick nor runny, its the perfect in between and it has a powdery effect when it dries since its completely oil free you can use this in summers without the worry of it melting off. The shade medium is what I use on an everyday basis and I use Honey when I feel I need that extra tint of peach since I have very dark under eyes.

The coverage is medium to full and if you can get your hands on a darker shade its also good for contour. The sponge applicator is something you either hate or love. I actually like it.

Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer

Price: Rs 475/- Comes in 8 Shades

My Experience: Maybelline just knows their base products. This concealer is another amazing one you can’t go wrong with. This is again medium coverage plus buildable but I can’t go too heavy with it like the Age rewind it can look a little cakey under my eyes since I have creases. Now this again works for all skin types but if you have very dry under eye prep it with a cream before hand. Also setting this concealer is better otherwise it will crease in few hours.

Loose powder or pressed compact both work the same. This concealer is also known as a dupe for the Nars Creamy Concealer which I agree since I have both. But I feel this one is a little more hydrating compared to the Nars Creamy Concealer. I like them both equally but I feel the Nars one lasts longer on me so I prefer that during long events.

This concealer is something you should definitely try atleast once. I use the shade 20 sand sable for highlighting under eye since it is a little light for me.

My Ratings:

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Concealer

Price: Rs 399/- Comes in 6 shades

My Experience: I have the photofocus foundation so I decided to try the concealer too which I’m so glad I did. This is a good everyday kind of concealer. Its medium coverage, doesn’t do full. Its light weight and not drying hence perfect for an everyday use.

It needs to be set though even if you have dry under eyes since it creases really fast. Using a loose powder is better compared to pressed powder. The consistency is quite similar to the Maybelline Fit me. My Fav Youtuber Kathleen Lights really likes this concealer too so I could be a little bias there

This shade is an exact match for me so I mix a little of Nars creamy Concealer or Maybelline Fit me to make it a hair lighter so my under eyes don’t look dark.

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD

Price: Rs 595/- Comes in 39 shades including colour correcting shades

To find it online: Click here

My Experience: This is a cult fav concealer of a lot of people especially youtubers and bloggers, so obviously I had to get my hands on these. The shade I first bought was Nude which looked a little ashy since its cool tone and I did like the formula so I got the shade pure beige later and it still did not work for me so I ended up mixing them both and I think I got a pretty neutral shade that works for me. I used this concealer a lot till I started using the Maybelline Age rewind now I can’t go back. Even though both these formula are quite similar I just like the age Rewind a little better comparatively also I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging.

This is also medium coverage and can be built up. This needs to be set too with powder otherwise it does crease on me. I actually like their color corrector in orange a lot and use that a lot more especially when I know I’m gonna be taking pictures. I’ll do a short review on that on Instagram or when I do a post on color correcting (let me know if you would be interested in that).

If you have dry under eyes you would really like this concealer since it does emphasis fine lines and won’t crease if set properly.

L’Oreal Paris True Match Concealer

Price: Rs 999/- comes in 8 shades

My Experience: This is my lease fav concealer from my collection and also my first concealer ever. I got this when I was in college and I matched myself in the store which was wrong and got a shade which is dark for me especially for under eyes. That’s why I never liked using concealer as much before.

Now I use this to mix and match my lighter concealers. Also this concealer shades changes the undertone of my other concealers which I am not a fan of. This has expired so I need to throw it out and I won’t be repurchasing this since I like Maybelline Age rewind a lot more. This concealer is great for people who have flaky and very dry under eyes but people who have oily under eye will hate it as it will slip and crease very easily. This also doesn’t work if you have a heavy under eye cream underneath. But I like the packaging of this way better since its easier to travel with. It is also quite expensive compared to other options that are available in the market. Definitely set this concealer with a loose powder because it does crease. If you are travelling out of India you can check out this concealer since they have more shades available as compared to 8 shades in India.

My Ratings:

Maybelline light touch concealer

Hope this comparison helped you in deciding which concealer will work for you and which won’t. There are certain things which you should do if you want your concealer to go on smoothly and does not crease and won’t look cakey or fade away easily.

  • Also prep your under eyes with a gel based under eyes serum/ cream 10 to 20 mins before applying concealer
  • Always set your concealer especially loose powders work the best.
  • If you feel your under eyes looks ashy change the shade you are using or blend it with the foundation you are using or which matches with your skin.
  • Don’t rub your eyes constantly causes creases and fading.
  • You can use mini sponges or dense small brushes to blend in your concealer but always spend a min extra to blend it in properly and don’t be harsh in any way.
  • If you feel you went over board with the concealer and its creasing or looking heavy just take a wet sponge and spray a little setting spray/ rose water and dab it around your eyes and then set it with translucent powder.
  • Use a cotton swab to remove the creases very close to eye and then set it with loose powder using a fluffy small brush.
